Energy efficiency – how to get buy-in from your senior leadership
Buildings contribute significantly to our carbon emissions, mainly due to the energy required for heating and powering them. This holds true for workplaces and premises, as well as any other type of building.
We often hear from employees in local organisations who champion sustainability within their business and are eager for their workplace to address energy efficiency. We wholeheartedly support this initiative!
However, to effectively engage with the Energy Solutions Oxfordshire process, we need to collaborate with the person responsible for energy management within the organisation. Typically, this individual is a Facilities Manager or Finance Manager, but depending on the company’s structure and size, it could also be the CEO or Managing Director.
Nevertheless, this doesn’t mean there’s nothing you, as an enthusiastic employee, can do to improve the energy efficiency of your workplace.
What can you do about your workplace as an employee?
Your primary contribution is to bring the issue to the attention of your Facilities Manager or senior leadership team, articulating the business case for prioritising energy efficiency. By framing the discussion around the business case, you speak their language and demonstrate how working on energy efficiency can lower running costs for the business.
Moreover, it positions the business as an organisation committed to improving its environmental impact, setting it apart from competitors.
